In a statement addressing regional tensions, Erhürman noted that all possible scenarios are being closely assessed and that state institutions are working in full coordination to safeguard public safety. He underlined that the protection of citizens remains the government’s top priority.

“At this stage, there is nothing that requires alarm. However, this is not an environment in which we can afford to be relaxed,” Erhürman said.

He explained that security forces, the Civil Defence Organisation and the police are monitoring developments on a real-time basis and preparing for different contingencies. He added that supply-related scenarios, particularly regarding fuel and essential goods, are also being reviewed as a precaution.

Erhürman emphasized that broader evaluations of the causes and consequences of the developments in the south would be made at a later stage, once conditions stabilize. For now, he said, the main objective is to ensure that the public feels secure despite the heightened regional tensions.

Reiterating the stance of the Turkish Cypriot community, Erhürman called for an end to violence and urged all parties to turn to diplomacy and dialogue grounded in international law.

“Our hope and our appeal is for a swift return to diplomacy instead of a path that costs innocent lives and destabilizes the region,” he said. “We stand not for war, but for peace and civilization.”
