Transport Ministry Issues Fraud Warning: Beware of Fake SMS Messages from Different Country Codes

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has warned that SMS messages sent in the name of the General Directorate of Highways of the Republic of Turkey and requesting payment are fraudulent. Citizens were urged not to click on any links and not to share personal information.

In a statement, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport said that SMS messages requesting payment and containing internet links, sent from numbers beginning with “+44” or other foreign country codes, are part of scam attempts carried out using the name of the General Directorate of Highways of the Republic of Turkey.

The ministry stressed that such messages should not be trusted under any circumstances, that the links included in them must not be clicked, and that no personal or financial information should be shared.

The ministry called on the public to remain vigilant and exercise caution.
