Fikri Ataoğlu: Shelters Can Accommodate Around 400,000 People

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu said that recent inspections have clarified the country’s shelter capacity, noting that “around 400,000 people can use the shelters.” Ataoğlu made the remarks during a live appearance on the BRT program Gündem 12.

He stated that the Civil Defence Organisation has provided updated information on the current status of shelters across the country. Recent inspections have confirmed the usable capacity of the shelters.

“Many questions were asked yesterday regarding shelters. We learned that Civil Defence conducts regular inspections and that a comprehensive check was carried out recently,” Ataoğlu said.

He added that Civil Defence reported that approximately 400,000 people could be accommodated in the existing shelters, and that data on the number of shelters in each district has also been shared by the organisation.

Ataoğlu concluded, “We have been informed that, if use becomes necessary, around 400,000 people can be safely accommodated in the shelters.”
