US Raises Travel Alert for Cyprus, Non-Essential Staff Authorized to Leave
The US Department of State has authorized non-essential personnel and their families at the US Embassy in southern Cyprus to depart the island due to “security risks.” Washington also urged American citizens to reconsider travel to Cyprus.
The Greek Cypriot administration described the move as a “routine procedure.”
Philenews and other online outlets reported the embassy’s official social media post, which cited a “threat of armed conflict in Cyprus” and noted that assistance for Americans living in the TRNC is limited. The post also requested that US citizens planning to travel to the island review their plans.
A spokesperson speaking to the Cyprus News Agency said that southern Cyprus remains in constant communication and coordination with its partners and relevant authorities and that there are no indicators justifying concern over national security.
