Speaking on rising regional tensions, Üstel criticized military agreements signed by the Greek Cypriot administration with France and Israel, as well as the use of foreign bases and the involvement of UK bases, saying these measures have effectively made southern Cyprus a party to potential conflict. “The Greek Cypriot population lives in fear and experiences significant unrest,” he added.

He emphasized that despite preparing for all contingencies, there is no comparable anxiety in the TRNC due to trust in Turkey: “Our people trust Turkey. Turkey is our guarantor and our motherland.”

Üstel also highlighted the vital role of Turkey’s guarantor status in ensuring the security of the Turkish Cypriot community and thanked Turkey for its ongoing support. He stressed that the TRNC cannot intervene in military agreements signed unilaterally by the Greek Cypriot administration, underlining that sovereignty is non-negotiable and equal sovereignty will always be upheld.

The Prime Minister added that ongoing projects with Turkey in roads, hospitals, schools, energy, and digital infrastructure will continue, with the aim of completing these initiatives to strengthen the country’s future and improve the quality of life for its citizens.
