According to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense, the six General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon jets arrived at the new Ercan International Airport at around 09:30 this morning. The aircraft reportedly landed fully armed and ready for potential operational duties.

The arrival of the fighter jets was followed by numerous members of the press who were present at the airport.

The Ministry stated that the deployment was carried out under a phased plan to increase the security of the TRNC, adding that further measures could be taken depending on developments in the region.

The move comes amid growing regional tensions following attacks launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, which have now entered their tenth day. Concerns have been raised that the presence of military bases on Cyprus could increase the island’s exposure to potential risks as the conflict continues.
