According to a report by journalist Betul Usta in Sabah, the move comes as regional tensions intensified following the war launched by Israel and the United States against Iran, which has created a new security agenda in Cyprus.

The report said Ankara has deployed additional military assets to the island to bolster the security of Turkish Cypriots. In addition to previously stationed Bayraktar TB2 drones and Bayraktar Akıncı unmanned combat aircraft, General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon jets and air defence systems have now been sent to Northern Cyprus.

According to open-source information, more than 40,000 Turkish troops are already stationed on the island, while additional measures are reportedly being considered to further strengthen security.

The Ministry of National Defence confirmed that six F-16 fighter jets and air defence systems have been deployed to Northern Cyprus, with the system believed to be the domestically produced HİSAR air defence platform.

It was also noted that Hakan Fidan had warned the Greek Cypriot administration months earlier over what he described as the militarisation of the island and provocative actions related to Gaza. Following the outbreak of the conflict, the Greek Cypriot side reportedly sought support from European Union member states to enhance security in southern Cyprus.
