Turkey’s Defense Ministry: Security of Northern Cyprus Is Vital, No Hostile Moves Will Be Tolerated
The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) emphasized that the security of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is of critical importance for Turkey. The ministry stated that no action targeting the rights or interests of the Cyprus Turks will be allowed, and Turkey will not hesitate to exercise its guarantor rights.
“The TRNC’s security is our security”
The MSB highlighted the direct link between Turkey’s own security and that of the TRNC, noting: “The security of the TRNC is our security. We will not allow any hostile actions or faits accomplis targeting the rights and interests of the Cyprus Turks. We will fully exercise the rights and authorities granted by the guarantor status.”
“Most suitable system deployed against ballistic missile threats”
The ministry also provided details on how defense systems respond to ballistic missile threats. It explained that due to extremely short reaction times, the system automatically selects and engages the most effective countermeasure.
As a result, the defense assets deployed against the ballistic missile threat to Turkey successfully intercepted and destroyed the projectile.
“Incirlik is a Turkish base”
Addressing discussions about Incirlik Air Base, the MSB reiterated: “Incirlik is a Turkish base. The presence of American personnel does not make it an American base.”
