DISY And AKEL Neck And Neck In South Cyprus Poll
A new opinion poll ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections in South Cyprus shows Democratic Rally (DISY) narrowly leading with 16.1%, while Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) follows closely with 15.9%, with a large bloc of undecided voters expected to play a decisive role in the outcome.
The survey, conducted by Noverna for the newspaper Politis, found that 28.5% of respondents remain undecided, making them the key factor in determining the election result.
According to the poll, other parties received the following support: National Popular Front (ELAM) 9.6%, ALMA 8.7%, Direct Democracy 7%, Democratic Party (DIKO) 6.8%, Volt Cyprus 2.4%, Movement for Social Democracy (EDEK) 1.4%, Ecologists Movement – Citizens’ Cooperation 1.2%, Active Citizens – Hunters Movement 1.1%, and Democratic Alignment (DIPA) 0.8%. Smaller groups received less than 1%.
The poll was conducted between 26 February and 11 March among 1,020 eligible voters.
When asked about their likelihood of voting, 70% of respondents said they would “definitely vote,” 21% said “probably yes,” 5% said “probably not,” and 4% said they would “definitely not” participate.
The survey also highlighted the main concerns among Greek Cypriot respondents, with the cost of living and water shortages ranking high on the list.
Rising food and basic consumer prices topped public concerns, with 71% saying they were “very worried.” The issue of water shortages followed closely, with 61% saying they were “very worried” about potential water cuts.
Electricity prices also generated strong concern, with 61% saying they were highly worried, while wage increases, high rents and property prices, and the adequacy of pensions were also cited as major issues.
Traffic congestion was another concern, with 47% saying they were very worried about the problem.
