TRNC Issues Counter-NOTAM Declaring South Cyprus Notice Invalid
The TRNC Ministry of Public Works and Transport has announced that it issued a counter-NOTAM declaring invalid a notice published by Greek Cypriot Administration, citing an overlap with the Ercan Advisory Airspace.
In a written statement, the ministry said the NOTAM issued by the Greek Cypriot side covered the northeastern part of the island and intersected with airspace under Ercan’s advisory control. It added that a corresponding NOTAM had been published to nullify the announcement.
The statement recalled that the Greek Cypriot Administration had issued NOTAM A0345/26 covering a wide maritime area south and east of Cyprus, warning of possible military activity. Aircraft operating in the المنطقة were advised to exercise caution and maintain continuous contact with air traffic control units.
According to the ministry, the counter-notice, numbered NO100/26, reaffirmed that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is the sole competent authority for providing air traffic and aeronautical information services within its airspace, and described the Greek Cypriot NOTAM as “invalid and without legal effect.”
The ministry also urged all aircraft operating in the area to prioritise flight safety, closely follow published aviation information, and maintain coordination with relevant air traffic authorities.
