Çelik Warns Against Destabilising Steps in Eastern Mediterranean
AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik said steps that could increase tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean must be avoided, stressing that Turkey remains resolute in protecting its national security and sovereign rights.
Speaking ahead of a Central Executive Board meeting, Çelik underlined that Turkey, as a guarantor power, has the capability and determination to act decisively in safeguarding the rights and interests of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
He said Turkey would not be drawn into provocations or proxy wars, adding that its approach to national security is based on its own strategic priorities and that it has consistently demonstrated its willingness to act when necessary.
Çelik also warned that increasing military activity in the region could heighten instability, pointing to cooperation between South Cyprus and Israel, as well as potential moves by some European Union member states to expand their presence.
He said such actions risk deepening tensions in an already fragile environment and called on all parties to refrain from steps that could further destabilise the Eastern Mediterranean.
