Bahçeli: Turkey Will Not Abandon Northern Cyprus
MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli stated that Cyprus is not a routine foreign policy matter for Turkey and emphasized that Northern Cyprus cannot be left alone while Southern Cyprus is heavily armed. He underscored that Cyprus represents a sovereignty issue for Turkey.
Speaking at his party’s group meeting, Bahçeli also commented on the ongoing US-Israel/Iran tensions, saying, “Israel is not beholden to Netanyahu. If regime change occurs in the Middle East, it should include Israel.”
On Cyprus, he said: “No one should expect us to leave Northern Cyprus isolated at a time when the South is being armed, or to ignore threats against our compatriots. Cyprus is not a mere foreign policy issue for us—it is a national cause and an indispensable matter of sovereignty. The organization of Turkish states, as a new center of influence, will make an important contribution to peace, stability, and security in the region.”
