In a written statement, Ertuğruloğlu described EOKA as “one of the darkest and indelible stains in Cyprus history,” saying the group initiated a campaign of violence aimed at systematically eliminating the Turkish Cypriot people in pursuit of union with Greece.

He said the Turkish Cypriot community responded by uniting under the Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT), exercising its right to self-defense and demonstrating to the world that it would never compromise its freedom.

Ertuğruloğlu argued that the Greek Cypriot administration has failed to draw lessons from past experiences and continues to instill the EOKA mindset in new generations, seeking to keep Enosis aspirations alive.

Describing what he called an increasingly aggressive stance as a major obstacle to regional peace, he said the transformation of the island into “a powder keg” threatens stability. He added that the presence of security forces and the Turkish Armed Forces on the island remains a firm guarantee.
