According to statements given in court by Police Sergeant Aykut Özkan, the incident occurred on 28 March 2026 at around 21:30 on Ecevit Street. Alpdağ reportedly fired seven shots at Öztürk with his licensed handgun due to an ongoing personal dispute and alleged threats against himself and his family. Öztürk was shot twice in the right leg and once in the left leg, sustaining serious injuries and a broken left leg.

The firearm used in the incident and ten 9mm bullets were found in Alpdağ’s possession, leading to his immediate arrest. Police also reported that a search of his residence, conducted with a court order, uncovered an additional 33 9mm bullets.

Öztürk was placed under observation at Nicosia State Hospital’s Orthopaedics Department and is scheduled for surgery. Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing, with witness statements and CCTV footage to be reviewed and the firearm and ammunition subjected to ballistic testing.

After reviewing the testimony, the court ruled that the suspect will remain in police custody for a further two days.
