Multiple Arrests Across Northern Cyprus in Drug, Animal Cruelty, Drunkenness, and Illegal Residency Cases
According to the Police Press Office, several incidents involving drugs, animal cruelty, public disturbance due to intoxication, and illegal residency occurred across the country during recent inspections and operations. A total of eight individuals were arrested in connection with these incidents, with investigations ongoing.
Drug Operation in Kyrenia
On April 5, 2026, at around 20:00, Narcotics and Anti-Smuggling Department officers conducted a search at the residence of S.Y. (M, 53) in Kyrenia. The search reportedly uncovered 26 cannabis plants in pots and two hand-rolled cigarettes believed to contain a cannabis-tobacco mixture. The suspect was arrested, and the investigation continues.
Deliberate Animal Killing in Kuzucuk
Earlier the same day, at approximately 11:30 in the Ağıllar area of Kuzucuk, K.B. (M, 49) allegedly ran over and killed a dog intentionally while driving a vehicle. The individual was arrested, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Public Disturbance Under the Influence in İskele
On February 18, 2026, at around 01:00 in İskele, A.A. (M, 33) reportedly refused to provide a breath sample while under the influence of alcohol and caused a public disturbance by shouting and yelling loudly. The person was arrested, and the case is under investigation.
Illegal Residency Arrests
During nationwide inspections on April 5, 2026, police identified five individuals residing in Northern Cyprus without legal status. All five were arrested, and legal proceedings have been initiated. Investigations into these cases are ongoing.
