UK Says Cyprus Bases Not Up For Negotiation
The UK Ministry of Defence has stated that the status of British bases in Cyprus is not open to negotiation, emphasizing that the “sovereign base areas have never been part of the Republic of Cyprus.”
According to reports in Alithia newspaper, the UK outlined its position in comments to Omega TV, indicating that it has no intention of making any changes to the current status of the bases.
The report cited remarks provided by the UK Ministry of Defence to journalist Pavlos Pittas, in which it clearly reiterated that the status of the British bases would not be subject to discussion. It also stressed that the sovereign base areas have never constituted part of the Republic of Cyprus.
