Protests Continue Outside Parliament
A strike launched outside the parliament building is continuing today, with police maintaining extensive security measures in the area.
After demonstrators entered the parliament building yesterday, police units have reinforced security at entrances to prevent further access. In statements on behalf of the unions, it was emphasized that protests will continue unless the government withdraws both the bill and the decree with the force of law.
Union representatives announced that demonstrators would gather again outside parliament at 10:00 a.m.
Turk-Sen President Arslan Bıçaklı said on Tuesday that public trust in the government had eroded, adding that protests would continue at parliament until the legislation is withdrawn.
EL-SEN President Ahmet Tuğcu also confirmed that unions will maintain the general strike and gather outside parliament in the morning.
Meanwhile, KTAMS President Güven Bengihan stated that the government must officially withdraw the decree on the cost-of-living allowance in the Official Gazette for the general strike to be suspended, warning that protests will continue if no such step is taken.
Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Sıla Usar İncirli also reiterated her call for early elections, criticizing the government’s handling of the process.
