İncirli Calls For Elections By June As Political Tensions Escalate
Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Sıla Usar İncirli has called for early elections to be held by June, saying the government has paralyzed both the country and parliament.
Speaking at a press conference in parliament, İncirli said the developments of the past week had made early elections unavoidable. “This government and its mindset are putting the country’s future at risk. Our call is clear: early elections must be held immediately and the ballot box must be set up,” she said.
İncirli warned that no one would find stability as long as the government remains in power, arguing that the country would continue to be driven toward crisis. She added that alleged irregularities, including the handling of public finances, recruitment practices and the weakening of institutions, would not be overlooked.
Referring to recent events, she described the day as “historic” and reiterated that the government has effectively locked both the country and parliament.
Criticizing the government’s approach, İncirli said it had ignored opportunities for dialogue. “When unions presented a reasonable proposal, where were they? We all tried to establish dialogue, but they pushed through a decree with the force of law,” she said.
Emphasizing the urgency of elections, she added: “As CTP, we believe early elections should be held as soon as possible. This country must go to the polls by June at the latest.”
İncirli also pointed to growing public pressure, noting that thousands gathered outside parliament chanting for the government’s resignation. “This is the clearest sign of the public’s demand for change,” she said, adding that the government cannot ignore these calls.
Concluding her remarks, İncirli thanked members of the press, highlighting their role in informing the public under challenging conditions and describing their work as “extremely valuable.”
