CTP Calls For Probe Into Attacks On Freedom Of Expression
Republican Turkish Party has described recent spam and coordinated smear attempts targeting media organisations’ digital platforms as a direct interference in freedom of expression and the public’s right to access information, calling for an investigation and punishment of those responsible.
In a written statement, the party said that attacks on media outlets, journalists, and citizens’ online publications—through spam activity and efforts to disrupt broadcasting—constitute a clear violation of democratic norms, freedom of expression, and the public’s right to receive news.
The statement stressed that such actions target media institutions, press workers, and individuals who are responsible for reflecting public realities and maintaining open public debate, and that they are therefore unacceptable.
It added that these organised attempts directly aim to undermine democracy, public discussion, criticism, and society’s access to accurate information, while also attempting to suppress both communication and expression rights.
The CTP further stated that deleting messages, news, or criticism through cyber operations does not eliminate the truth, while also including criticism of the current governing approach.
The party also described allegations that such activities may be financed using public resources as extremely serious, saying that if confirmed, this would amount to using public money against the public itself.
CTP warned that the use of state authority and public funds to suppress freedom of expression or silence the press is unacceptable, adding that legal action will be taken if the claims are verified.
The statement concluded that freedom of thought, expression, and access to information are fundamental pillars of democracy, and that the party will continue to oppose all forms of pressure, intimidation, and attempts to silence critical voices.
