UNFICYP Says Unauthorized Entries Into Buffer Zone Violate Mandate
United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus has responded to a report by Kıbrıs Postası on developments in Pyla, stating that unauthorized entry into the buffer zone constitutes a violation of its mandate.
In a statement shared via social media, UNFICYP said it is monitoring the situation on the Pyla plateau and that patrols have been increased after personnel from the Turkish Cypriot side were observed entering the United Nations buffer zone without authorization.
The mission stressed that any unauthorized entry, presence, or activity within the buffer zone represents a breach of its authority and said respect for this mandate is essential for maintaining stability in the area.
UNFICYP added that it remains in contact with all relevant parties and is working to restore the situation to its previous state, while taking steps to prevent any developments that could undermine calm and stability.
The statement also underlined that maintaining peace and stability across the buffer zone remains the mission’s top priority.
