In a written statement titled “Fascists Must Not Be Allowed To Stage Their Play In Cyprus Again,” the union referred to escalating violence in the Middle East, saying civilian deaths are being fuelled by imperial interests, radicalism, sectarianism and extreme nationalism.

KTOEÖS argued that certain political approaches on both sides of Cyprus, including militarisation and alliance-building, are reinforcing divisive structures and enabling what it described as “fascist formations.”

The union said recent developments in both the north and south of the island are undermining the peace process, increasing tensions, and fuelling mistrust between the two communities.

It also pointed to recent incidents involving flag burning and stone-throwing, warning that such acts create dangerous opportunities for further escalation.

KTOEÖS stressed that current policies are deepening division and reiterated its call for a settlement based on a federal model under United Nations parameters.

The statement concluded that peace and a comprehensive solution remain the only viable path forward for the island and the wider region, warning that failure to achieve this could lead to further crises.
