Erdoğan Calls For End To Isolation Of Turkish Cypriots, Urges Cyprus Solution
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said it was “long overdue” to reach a fair, lasting and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue, while calling for an end to what he described as the unjust isolation of Turkish Cypriots.
Speaking at a dinner hosted at Dolmabahçe Palace as part of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Erdoğan urged international support on the matter.
“Once again, I call for an end to the unlawful isolation imposed on Turkish Cypriots and expect your support in this regard,” he said.
Erdoğan stressed that the Cyprus issue, which has remained on the agenda since 1963, requires a comprehensive settlement, adding that achieving a durable solution is now essential.
Addressing participants from around 155 countries, he said the gathering provided an opportunity to strengthen international dialogue and cooperation, expressing hope that discussions and decisions taken during the assembly would contribute to resolving global challenges.
He also highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, noting that the Inter-Parliamentary Union has played a key role in promoting democratic values and international engagement for over a century.
The event, held under the theme of fostering hope, peace and justice for future generations, brought together lawmakers and officials from across the world.
