Christodoulides Responds To Michel On Turkey: “They Still Occupy Cyprus”
Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides responded on social media to comments by former European Council President Charles Michel regarding Turkey’s role, saying that “since 1974, European territory has remained under occupation.”
According to Fileleftheros, Christodoulides commented on Michel’s remarks that Turkey is “a key NATO ally, a crucial migration partner, and an important actor in energy and defence.”
Michel had also stated that “Europe cannot become stronger by applying double standards or by oversimplifying reality.”
Responding to the remarks on social media, Christodoulides claimed that Turkey had occupied Cyprus in 1974 and continues to occupy a European country.
In his statement, Christodoulides said: “Dear Charles, since you mention double standards, let me remind you that Turkey occupied Cyprus in 1974 and still keeps European territory under occupation.”
