Erhürman: I Am Here To Solve Problems Through Dialogue, Not Conflict
President Tufan Erhürman has said that he is in office “not to panic and escalate problems through conflict, but to produce solutions to problems through consultation, diplomacy and dialogue.”
Erhürman issued a statement via his social media account in response to criticism directed at him.
His statement read:
“I listen to criticism, I understand anger, and I feel sorrow and concern in my heart.
But I do not divide, nor allow division. I do not engage in hope-trading, nor do I allow those who seek to trade in despair to find opportunity. I do not alienate, nor do I refrain from defending the rights of my citizens and my people.
It has been tried many times, and it has never succeeded. I am here not to panic and escalate problems through conflict, but to produce solutions to problems through consultation, diplomacy and dialogue.
I will not abandon democracy, human rights, or the will for a solution.
I have previously stated that I have no intention of falling into the complacency of ‘it is not my authority, it does not concern me.’
In the same way, there is no place in my book for the complacency of ‘nothing can be achieved from this country, from this people.’
As I said, it has been tried many times and it has not succeeded. I do not get angry, I do not break, I do not withdraw. I continue with calmness, patience and determination.
I know what I have inherited, and I know where I must go for this country, this people, and above all the children of this country.
I have always been on the streets, and I am still on the streets. I have always listened, and I continue to listen. The source of my confidence is my trust in my people and in the skilled human capital of this country, and it should be known that there has been no weakening in this, nor will there ever be.”
