Police Seize Drugs In Famagusta And Gonyeli Operations, Solve Kyrenia Theft Case

Police Press Office has announced that drugs were seized in separate operations carried out in Famagusta and Gonyeli, while a theft and fraud case in Kyrenia has been solved.

It was also stated that legal proceedings were initiated against several individuals for giving false information to police, illegal residency, and being present in casinos.

Drug Operation In Famagusta

According to police information, on May 6, 2026, teams from the Nicosia Police Directorate’s Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Unit carried out an operation in Famagusta targeting K.T. (M-31) and M.S.Ş. (M-32).

During searches in their vehicle and on their persons, approximately 27 grams of suspected cannabis and TL 11,300 in cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales were seized as evidence.

A subsequent search at K.T.’s residence uncovered approximately 35 grams of suspected cannabis and 6 grams of suspected cocaine.

Items believed to contain drug residue, including a spoon, a sensitive scale, and a grinder, were also seized.

The suspects, along with F.G.M.A., who was identified as connected to the case, were arrested. The investigation is ongoing.

Drugs Found In Gonyeli Vehicle Check

On May 5, 2026, at around 21:00, officers from the Lefkosa Police Directorate’s Cürümleri Önleme Branch stopped B.K. (M-25), who was acting suspiciously in Gonyeli.

During a search of the suspect and the vehicle, approximately 1 gram of suspected cannabis was found.

The individual was arrested and the investigation continues.

Theft And Fraud Case In Kyrenia

Police said that on April 9 and April 16, 2026, an unidentified suspect entered an electronics store in Kyrenia as a customer and removed two tablet computers, headphones, and a game console from the store without paying.

Following a police investigation, F.K. (M-29) was identified and arrested.

Further questioning revealed that the suspect falsely claimed to four individuals that the stolen items belonged to him, and sold them, obtaining TL 26,000 and USD 1,170 through fraud.

The investigation is ongoing.

False Statement After Traffic Accident

In connection with a traffic accident that occurred on May 2, 2026, at around 23:00 on Mete Adanır Street in Kyrenia, police determined that H.T.T. (M-29) was the driver of the vehicle involved.

However, it was found that the suspect falsely stated to police, in agreement with M.T.A. (M-31), that M.T.A. was the driver at the time of the accident.

Both individuals were arrested. The investigation continues.

Nationwide Checks On Illegal Residency

During island-wide inspections conducted on May 5, 2026, police detained four individuals found to be residing in the country without legal status.

Legal proceedings have been initiated and investigations are ongoing.

Casino Inspections

Police inspections carried out on May 5, 2026, at casinos across the country identified six individuals who were prohibited from entering or being present in such establishments.

Administrative fines were issued, and legal proceedings were initiated against them.
