Arıklı delivered a lecture titled “The Presence and Importance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the Mediterranean in Light of Recent Developments” at Ankara University’s Faculty of Theology.

He claimed that major powers, including the United States and Israel, are exerting significant efforts to limit Turkey’s presence in Cyprus, and said the TRNC remains unrecognised under United Nations resolutions, with countries seeking relations with the entity facing immediate international pressure.

Arıklı argued that the two communities on the island have lived in peace for 50 years, but said the TRNC is being targeted due to offshore energy resources, particularly oil and natural gas reserves.

Referring to the collapse of the Crans-Montana talks, Arıklı noted that Turkey has ruled out a federal solution and now supports a model based on sovereign equality and a confederal structure, adding that Ankara has declared it “will not abandon the TRNC.”

He described Cyprus as a centre of geopolitical competition, saying Turkey is increasingly isolated in the region and that all Turkic states except Azerbaijan have established diplomatic relations with the Greek Cypriot administration.

Arıklı also said Islamic countries maintain close relations with the TRNC.
