Suspect Remanded For 8 More Days After Drugs Found At Home
A suspect has been remanded in custody for a further eight days after drugs and drug-containing pills were found during a search of his residence in Gönyeli.
Okechukwu Charles Nelson, who was previously charged with possession, supply and transfer of controlled substances in Nicosia, was brought back before the court.
Police officer Görkem Taşlı from the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate told the court that the search was carried out on May 3, 2026, at the suspect’s residence in Gönyeli by teams from the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate and the Lefkoşa Police Criminal Investigation Branch.
During the search, police said they seized 42 grams of suspected cannabis, approximately 700 milligrams of suspected cocaine, one yellow pill believed to contain a controlled substance, and a precision scale with drug residue.
The suspect was arrested and an investigation was launched. In his statement, he allegedly admitted to supplying drugs since March and leaving them at various locations in Lefkoşa and Gönyeli in exchange for financial gain.
Police told the court that the investigation is ongoing, with the seized substances sent for laboratory analysis and fingerprint examination, and that further suspects are being sought. They requested an additional eight days of detention.
Judge Şevket Gazi approved the request and ordered that the suspect be remanded in custody for a further eight days.
