Üstel: Process Regarding Turkey Entry Bans Has Been Under Review For Four Years
Prime Minister Unal Ustel said the process concerning TRNC citizens banned from entering Turkey has been under the government’s knowledge and monitoring for approximately four years.
In a written statement, Ustel said they had been closely following political remarks and public statements regarding the issue.
He stated that a positive development concerning some of the individuals involved had been conveyed to the government by the relevant institutions earlier this week.
Noting that the process has not yet been completed and is still ongoing, Ustel said it would be wrong to turn such a sensitive matter into a political success story for any party.
He stressed that officials carrying state responsibility should not approach sensitive ongoing processes with personal or political gain in mind, adding that their primary goal was to ensure positive outcomes for all remaining individuals involved.
Ustel also warned that political statements and public polemics surrounding the ongoing process risked harming rather than strengthening efforts underway.
He said negotiations concerning other individuals could be negatively affected and called for restraint from statements that could damage efforts to reach a solution.
Emphasizing that relations between the TRNC and Turkey were not ordinary enough to be used as political material, Ustel said the relationship was based on historical, national and strategic brotherhood ties.
The prime minister added that the government was acting with this understanding and continued to achieve results through what he described as “quiet but effective diplomacy.”
