DISY Retains Lead Ahead of South Cyprus Parliamentary Elections
Opinion polls published ahead of the May 24 parliamentary elections in South Cyprus indicate that the Democratic Rally party (DISY) continues to hold first place, while the rise of the far-right ELAM party and possible political alliances remain part of the public debate.
According to the Greek Cypriot press, surveys published by the “Reporter” and “Cyprus Times” websites showed DISY maintaining its position as the leading party.
Greek Cypriot daily Alithia, which did not publish detailed polling figures, reported that although DISY remains in first place, the party is “shrinking under pressure” from ELAM’s growing support.
Meanwhile, Haravgi reported that AKEL criticised comments by some DISY officials regarding the possibility of cooperation with ELAM.
According to the report, AKEL called on DISY leader Annita Demetriou and DIKO member Chrysi Pantelidi to make their positions clear following remarks suggesting possible collaboration with ELAM.
