Tatar Undergoes Stent Procedure, Condition Reportedly Good
Former TRNC President Ersin Tatar underwent coronary angiography at Near East University Hospital during a routine medical check-up, where doctors identified a narrowing in a main artery and inserted a new stent.
According to hospital officials, the procedure was carried out by the hospital’s cardiology department after examinations indicated the need for further intervention.
Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Salih Müjdat Balkan stated that Tatar’s overall condition was good following the procedure.
Cardiology Department Head Prof. Dr. Hamza Duygu said a detailed examination was conducted due to Tatar’s cardiac history. He explained that doctors detected a recurrence of narrowing in a previously treated stent area, as well as clinically significant blockages in other coronary vessels.
Duygu said physicians successfully treated the previously implanted stent area using a drug-coated balloon technique. In addition, a new stent was inserted after approximately 70 percent narrowing was identified in a main artery.
He added that the operation was completed without complications and that Tatar was not facing any life-threatening condition.
According to the hospital, Tatar will remain under observation for a short period and is expected to be discharged following further examinations.
