Weekly Traffic Report: 31 Injured In 55 Accidents

According to the weekly traffic report covering 25–31 May issued by Police Press Sub-Directorate, a total of 31 people were injured in 55 traffic accidents recorded across the country.

During the same period, 10,266 drivers were checked, and 1,327 were reported for various traffic offences. In addition, 176 vehicles were removed from traffic and 10 drivers were arrested.

Of the 55 accidents, 19 resulted in injuries while 36 caused material damage. A total of 31 people were injured in injury-related crashes.

Speeding was identified as the leading cause of accidents, accounting for 18 cases. Other causes included careless driving (13), failure to stop at junctions (9), close following (7), and other factors (8).

The total material damage from traffic accidents was reported at 2,345,103 TL.

By district, Kyrenia recorded the highest number of accidents with 17 cases, followed by Nicosia with 15, Famagusta with 13, İskele with 6, and Güzelyurt with 4.

During traffic inspections, 10,266 drivers were checked across the country. Legal action was taken against 1,327 drivers for various offences.

Among those reported, 456 were speeding, 22 were driving dangerously, 42 were driving carelessly, 111 were driving without a valid road licence, and 10 were driving without a driving licence. In addition, 59 drivers were found to be under the influence of alcohol, 6 were using mobile phones while driving, 22 were not wearing seatbelts, 74 failed to obey road signs and markings, and 7 violated traffic lights.

Furthermore, 57 drivers were found operating unlicensed vehicles, 48 were driving uninsured or outside insurance coverage, 6 were operating vehicles without a “T” passenger transport licence, and 10 without a “B” goods transport licence. Seventeen drivers were reported for tinted windows obstructing visibility, one motorcyclist for not wearing a protective helmet, and nine for improper or insufficient lighting. The number of drivers reported for other offences was 370.

Police confirmed that 176 vehicles were removed from traffic and 10 drivers were arrested.
