DMM: Claims Of Turkish Aircraft Airspace Violation And Harassment Are Completely False
The Disinformation Combat Center (DMM) of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey has denied claims that Turkish F-16s harassed aircraft carrying Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias and European ministers, or violated Greek airspace.
In a statement, DMM said the allegations are entirely untrue and noted that on 7 June 2026, four of six air traffic movements on the Greece–Greek Cypriot Administration route entered the airspace of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
It stated that, as a precaution, two Turkish F-16s on alert duty stationed in the TRNC were immediately scrambled in response.
The statement stressed that the aircraft operated solely within TRNC airspace, did not enter Greek Cypriot airspace, and did not harass any of the mentioned flights.
DMM also referred to flights conducted on 6 June 2026 as part of the 115th anniversary of the Air Force Command and the “Youth and Aviation Festival”, stating that all operations were carried out within the 2nd Main Jet Base Command training area and that Greek airspace was not violated.
The statement added that the allegations were intended to manipulate international public opinion and create provocation, urging the public not to give them credence.
The full statement read:
“Reports in some media outlets and social media accounts claiming that Turkish aircraft harassed aircraft carrying Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias and European ministers, and that Turkish aircraft violated Greek airspace, are completely false.
On 7 June 2026, out of six air traffic movements on the Greece–Greek Cypriot Administration (GKRY) route, four violated the airspace of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). As a result, two Turkish F-16 aircraft on quick reaction alert duty in the TRNC were immediately scrambled as a precaution.
The aircraft operated within TRNC airspace, did not violate GKRY airspace, and no harassment took place against the said traffic.
Furthermore, all flights conducted on 6 June 2026 as part of the 115th anniversary of the Air Force Command and the ‘Youth and Aviation Festival’ were carried out within the 2nd Main Jet Base Command training area, and Greek airspace was not violated in any way.
The public is respectfully urged not to believe claims intended to manipulate international public opinion and create provocation.”
