Çiftçi: No Unilateral Moves In Cyprus And Eastern Mediterranean
Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi said that Turkey would not allow any unilateral initiative that could harm peace and stability in Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean, following his meeting with Tufan Erhürman.
Speaking after the meeting, Çiftçi said Turkey will continue to firmly defend the “legitimate cause” of the Turkish Cypriot people in all international forums.
He noted that discussions covered bilateral relations between Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot community, a shared vision for the future, regional developments, and cooperation in combating irregular migration and organised crime.
Çiftçi expressed satisfaction with ongoing cooperation in security and migration management, thanking relevant institutions for their coordination efforts.
Describing Northern Cyprus as a “second homeland,” he said Turkey’s support for the Turkish Cypriots is a permanent state policy and not dependent on changing political conditions.
Reiterating positions also attributed to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Çiftçi stressed that Ankara will continue to defend Turkish Cypriot rights under all circumstances, adding that no unilateral move will be permitted to disrupt peace and stability in the region.
