Şenkul made the announcement in a social media post, stating that laboratory tests from coastal areas indicate that local beaches currently meet cleanliness standards.

He acknowledged that the city’s wastewater treatment plant faces capacity limitations, but stressed that this has not translated into poor coastal water quality. He pointed to the contribution of a deep-sea outfall system built with European Union support and in line with international standards, saying it has played a key role in protecting the coastline.

Şenkul also noted that inspections have been intensified and improvements to municipal pumping stations have significantly reduced illegal wastewater discharge into coastal areas.

As a result, he said, water samples taken from beaches have continued to return clean results. He added that the municipality is ready to conduct joint sampling and testing with any institutions, organizations, or associations that dispute the findings.

Looking ahead, Şenkul said the capacity issues at the treatment plant will be addressed, and that efforts will continue not only along the coastline but also at deep-sea discharge points to resolve remaining environmental concerns.
