According to GC Press, Christodoulides stated that it is not possible for the UN Secretary-General to undertake any initiative outside the framework of the UN Charter. Commenting on Fidan’s remarks on a two-state solution in Cyprus, Christodoulides said he had been briefed by Holguin on her meeting with Fidan, without disclosing the content of their discussion to the public.

Christodoulides also said he did not downplay or dismiss the statements made by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, adding that the UN initiative is proceeding on the basis of international law and UN resolutions and within a defined direction.

Meanwhile, the Holguin–Fidan meeting was reported by GC Press outlets under headlines such as “Fidan Proposes Two-State Solution to Holguin” in Haravgi and “Two-State Solution More Realistic” in Alithia.
