Özersay: Government Partners Acting Like They Are Scoring Against Each Other
People's Party (HP) Kudret Özersay has said that government partners have been contradicting each other in recent public statements, arguing that responsibility for ongoing problems lies with the UBP, DP and YDP.
In a social media post, Özersay criticised the coalition partners, saying recent developments have exposed deep inconsistencies within the government and that it is effectively a “patchwork government.”
He claimed that partners in the coalition have been issuing conflicting statements, citing the natural gas agreement signed by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel in Ankara as an example, arguing that other coalition partners were not informed about it.
Özersay also referred to separate statements by Democratic Party (DP) and Rebirth Party (YDP) leaders in Turkey regarding the domestic flight status of Ercan Airport, saying these were later contradicted by Üstel himself. He added that YDP leader Erhan Arıklı later expressed frustration towards Üstel in subsequent remarks.
He further argued that similar disagreements have emerged over issues such as the removal of mixed voting arrangements.
Özersay said coalition partners are now trying to shift responsibility onto each other as the election period approaches, stating: “This bill belongs to all of you.”
He added that UBP, DP and YDP are jointly responsible for decisions taken in government and that none of the parties can escape accountability before elections.
Özersay concluded by saying it would make no difference whether the coalition partners run together or separately in elections, adding: “The public will make all three of you pay this bill — with interest.”
