Ertuğruloğlu: Cyprus Issue Is Already Resolved
Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu has argued that the Cyprus issue is already de facto resolved in its current state, saying that no alternative settlement model is possible as long as the Greek Cypriot side continues to be recognised as the “Republic of Cyprus”.
According to a statement from the ministry, Ertuğruloğlu made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation attending the “Mediterranean Peace and Diplomacy Forum” hosted by Bahçeşehir Cyprus University under the theme “With the Same Roots, Towards a Common Future”.
The delegation, led by Rector Mehmet Toycan, included politicians, parliamentarians, academics, and opinion leaders from Iraq, Azerbaijan, Syria, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Western Thrace, Gagauzia, Bulgaria, and Southern Azerbaijan.
Addressing the delegation, Ertuğruloğlu said that Cyprus is a national cause for the Turkish nation and stressed the importance of solidarity. He added that the strength of the Turkish Cypriot side is tied to that of Turkey.
He reiterated that the policy of a two-state solution based on sovereign equality would not be abandoned, stating that negotiations with the Greek Cypriot side cannot produce a result and that no partnership with them is possible.
