Recalling that they had informed the public months ago that diplomatic contacts were expected to intensify in July following the election process in the Greek Cypriot administration and the end of its EU presidency, Erhürman said the Turkish Cypriot people's will for a settlement remained clear.

He noted that they continued to support the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General aimed at finding a solution and said that the principles and methods they had adopted regarding the Cyprus issue had repeatedly been shared with both relevant parties and the public.

Erhürman stressed that all international initiatives that could affect the Cyprus issue were being assessed carefully, adding: "We will not become instruments of provocations or games, regardless of where they come from."

Emphasising that they were acting with calm, seriousness and determination, Erhürman said this approach was now well known.

Commenting further on the process, Erhürman recalled that they had previously stated there was no agreed plan on the table and that only various ideas existed at this stage. Nevertheless, he said these ideas had been shared with the Political Parties Council, trade unions, the Youth Coordination Platform, representatives of the business community and all other interested groups.

He said the public would continue to be informed in a timely manner about all meaningful developments and stressed that they had no intention of seeking political gain from the process.

Concluding his statement, Erhürman said their priority was to safeguard the rights, future, equality, security and international engagement of the Turkish Cypriot people, particularly their children, while preserving the Turkish Cypriots' status as political actors.

"We are extremely calm, working continuously and determined. There is no cause for alarm," he said.
