Yeni Boğaziçi Mayor Sentenced to Six Months in Prison
Yeni Boğaziçi Mayor Katip Demir has been sentenced to a total of eight months in prison over offences linked to his previous term in office, although he will serve six months after the court ordered the sentences to run concurrently.
The court sentenced Demir to six months' imprisonment for forgery of an official document and an additional two months for offences under Articles 297 and 301 of the Criminal Code.
Because the sentences will be served concurrently, Demir will spend six months in prison rather than the combined eight months.
Demir was acquitted of separate charges of uttering a forged official document and abuse of office brought by the prosecution.
