According to Turkish Cypriot news website Lefka Haber, the two, described as friends, entered the north through the Pyrgos/Limnitis crossing point but allegedly continued their journey without completing the required procedures at the checkpoint.

The report said they were later stopped by Turkish Cypriot police officers and arrested for allegedly failing to comply with the legal entry procedures.

During subsequent investigations, the authorities also alleged that the pair had entered a restricted military zone.

Cyprus Police Spokesman Vyron Vyronos told the Cyprus Mail that the necessary steps are being taken through the bicommunal committee to clarify what happened.
