Temperatures To Reach 40C This Week
Temperatures are expected to climb to as high as 40C this week, with mainly clear skies across the island, according to the Meteorological Department's weekly forecast for July 11-17.
The department said the region will remain under the influence of a low-pressure system combined with a hot and relatively humid air mass.
On Monday, July 13, conditions are expected to be clear with only a few clouds. Maximum temperatures will range between 37C and 40C inland, while coastal areas are forecast to see highs of 32C to 35C.
Winds are expected to blow at a moderate strength, mainly from the south and west.
Authorities have advised the public to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, particularly during the hottest hours of the day, and to drink plenty of fluids to reduce the risk of heat-related illness.
