UN Spokesman Declines To Comment On Independent's Cyprus Settlement Plan Report
UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric declined to comment on whether proposals outlined in a reported Cyprus settlement plan published by the Independent reflect the position of Secretary-General António Guterres, while reaffirming the UN's commitment to supporting efforts to restart negotiations.
According to Haravgi, Dujarric was responding to a question from the Cyprus News Agency regarding the report published by the British newspaper.
He said the United Nations was aware of the publication but did not clarify whether the proposals described in the article partially or fully reflected Guterres' approach to the Cyprus issue.
Dujarric reiterated that both the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy for Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguin, remain committed to supporting the two leaders with the aim of restarting negotiations.
He also confirmed that the Cyprus issue was discussed during the recent telephone conversation between Secretary-General Guterres and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
