Man Arrested Over Lefke Land Fire After Deliberately Setting Dry Grass Ablaze

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a land fire in the Aplıç area of Lefke after police determined that he deliberately set dry grass on fire, causing damage to citrus trees and an irrigation system.

According to the Police Press Office, the fire broke out at around 2am on 14 July 2026 on a plot of land in the Aplıç area of Lefke.

The blaze destroyed three citrus trees, four irrigation hoses fitted with clamps, and piles of dry grass and branches before being extinguished by firefighters.

Following an investigation into the cause of the fire, police determined that the blaze started after G.D. (40) intentionally set dry grass on fire inside the property.

The suspect was arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
