UN Secretary-General Guterres To Visit Cyprus On July 27-29
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres will pay an official visit to Cyprus from July 27 to 29, marking his first trip to the island since taking office. He is expected to hold separate meetings with President Tufan Erhurman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, followed by a trilateral meeting.
According to information obtained by the Turkish News Agency (TAK) from foreign sources, Guterres will arrive on the island on Monday, July 27, with official engagements scheduled for July 28 and 29.
He will be accompanied by UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo and UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix.
As part of his visit, Guterres will meet separately with President Tufan Erhurman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides before bringing the two leaders together for a trilateral meeting.
The UN chief is also expected to meet members of the island's bicommunal technical committees and representatives of several civil society organisations.
The visit will make Guterres the first UN Secretary-General to visit Cyprus since 2010. The last UN chief to visit the island was Ban Ki-moon, who travelled to Cyprus 16 years ago.
