Gurcafer: Resolving Cyprus Issue Is Key To A Stable Economy
Cyprus Turkish Contractors Association (KTİMB) chairman Cafer Gurcafer has said that resolving the Cyprus issue is essential for building a stable and sustainable economy, arguing that the ongoing property dispute resulting from the island's unresolved political status remains one of the country's biggest economic challenges.
Commenting on the renewed Cyprus talks, Gurcafer said a stable economy can only develop on a stable foundation.
He noted that many of the country's economic difficulties stem from the unresolved property issue, which has persisted due to the lack of a comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus problem.
Gurcafer said improving living standards, enhancing social life and achieving more modern conditions would only be possible through a sustainable economy, stressing that a lasting and comprehensive solution to the Cyprus issue would have a significant positive impact.
He also expressed hope that the renewed process, which is supported by Turkey, would bring peace, stability and prosperity to the region.
"At the same time, we hope the process concludes with an outcome that protects the rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriot people," he said.
'We Will Maintain Our Constructive Approach'
In his statement, Gurcafer said:
"A stable economy requires a problem-free environment. It is clear that one of the biggest factors behind many of the economic problems we face is the unresolved property issue resulting from the lack of a settlement. Everyone knows that improving social life and providing our people with more modern living standards depends on a stable and sustainable economy. We are fully aware of the positive contribution that resolving the Cyprus issue would make to achieving a sustainable economy.
"We hope the new process, which is also supported by our motherland Turkey, will bring peace, stability and prosperity to our region. At the same time, we hope it produces an outcome that safeguards the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people. We will continue to maintain our constructive approach to help ensure the process reaches a positive conclusion."
