Özersay: Unclear Whether Guterres Visit Will Pave Way For 5+1 Talks
People's Party (HP) leader Kudret Özersay has described UN Secretary-General António Guterres' upcoming visit to Cyprus as an important development, but said it remains unclear whether it will pave the way for a new 5+1 conference or amount to little more than a symbolic visit.
In a post on social media, Özersay said Guterres' decision to visit the island and meet with the two leaders was significant.
However, he said it was still uncertain whether the meetings would lead to a new 5+1 conference, result instead in a trilateral meeting, or ultimately become "an entirely empty" visit.
Özersay also reiterated that his party supports a permanent and workable solution rather than the continuation of the status quo.
He added that, given the growing number of actors and factors involved in the Cyprus issue, developments should be assessed cautiously and without emotion.
