Turkish Foreign Ministry: Turkey Will Continue To Safeguard TRNC's Interests
Turkey's Foreign Ministry marked the 52nd anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation, saying Ankara will continue to protect the interests of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and work for the recognition of the Turkish Cypriots' sovereign equality and equal international status.
In a statement shared on social media, the ministry said it was commemorating "with pride" the anniversary of the military operation, describing it as the culmination of the Turkish Cypriot people's struggle for freedom.
"Fifty-two years ago today, Turkey acted within the framework of its rights and obligations under the 1960 Treaty of Guarantee, securing the safety of the Turkish Cypriot people and safeguarding their presence on the island," the statement said.
The ministry said Turkish Cypriots today live "with dignity, peace and security" under the flag of the TRNC.
It added that Turkey, as the motherland and guarantor state, would continue to defend the interests of the TRNC and work "with all its strength" for the recognition of what it described as the Turkish Cypriots' inherent right to sovereign equality and equal international status.
The statement also paid tribute to Turkish soldiers and Turkish Cypriot fighters who lost their lives during the conflict, while expressing gratitude to veterans.
