Guterres to Hold Separate and Joint Talks with Cyprus Leaders

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will hold separate meetings with Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides during his visit to Cyprus from July 27 to 29, before bringing the two leaders together for a private dinner and a joint meeting the following day, according to a programme published by Greek Cypriot news website AlphaNews.

According to the report, Guterres will arrive in Cyprus on the evening of July 27, accompanied by Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix and Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo. His Personal Envoy on Cyprus, María Ángela Holguín, is also expected to be on the island.

On July 28, Guterres is scheduled to meet Christodoulides at 10:30 a.m. and Erhürman at 11:45 a.m. He will later lay a wreath at the UN Memorial at Ledra Palace before visiting the Committee on Missing Persons' Anthropology Laboratory.

The UN chief is also expected to meet the two sides' negotiators, the heads of the bicommunal technical committees and representatives of civil society.

In the evening, Guterres will host the two leaders at a private dinner at the residence of the UN Special Representative in Cyprus. The meeting will be closed to the media.

On the morning of July 29, Guterres will hold a second meeting with the two leaders at the UN Good Offices Mission headquarters located at the former Nicosia International Airport.

According to the programme, Guterres will hold a press conference before departing the island.
