Speaking after meeting Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman, Holguín described the talks as productive and confirmed that Guterres would arrive in Cyprus later today.

She said the UN chief will hold separate meetings with Erhürman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides on Tuesday, followed by a dinner bringing the two leaders together later in the evening.

Holguín said Guterres' visit demonstrates the United Nations' continued commitment to the Cyprus issue, noting that the Secretary-General has maintained his good offices mission for many years and has been closely engaged with the Cyprus problem for nearly a decade.

She added that Guterres is coming to Cyprus to support efforts aimed at creating the conditions for the resumption of negotiations and to help achieve progress in the process.

Holguín said the UN was pleased to welcome the Secretary-General to Cyprus.
