UK Backs Guterres' Plan for New Expanded Cyprus Talks

The UK Foreign Office has welcomed UN Secretary-General António Guterres' intention to convene a new round of expanded talks on Cyprus once conditions allow, reaffirming its support for a comprehensive and lasting settlement under the auspices of the United Nations.

According to Fileleftheros, a spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that Britain welcomed Guterres' intention to hold another round of expanded talks "as soon as the necessary conditions are in place."

The spokesperson reiterated the UK's longstanding position that the Cyprus issue should be resolved under the framework of the United Nations.

"We remain committed to supporting a lasting and comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus issue that benefits all Cypriots," the spokesperson said.
